Back in 1987, a comic was born and it was called “Sam and Max: Freelance Police”
It was about a six-foot tall canine shamus with a love of justice, and a hyperkinetic rabbity-thing with a taste for mayhem. Their names were Sam and Max.
The year is 1993 and the crime fighting duo appears in their first video game entitled, “Sam n Max Hit the Road”. The game was created and published by Lucasarts. This was their first big hit on the screens of thousand of adventure fans. They brought many a smile to the pc gamer and was hailed the funniest game Lucasarts had created.
Through the years 1999 to 2004, eager adventure fans waited in anticipation for the sequel to the original Sam n Max game, but alas their hopes and dreams were torn asunder. The most beloved adventure game publisher and creator had turned their backs on their most loyal fans. The game was so close to release date yet it would never reach the publics waiting hands. The now ex Lucasarts ceo thought that adventure games would not sell well and so he canceled the near finished game.
Between the years 2004 to 2005, fans started a patetion to bring back Sam n Max but this failed. Soon all hope was lost that they would ever see a sequel to that beloved crime fighting duo.
In 2005 Sam and Max claw their way back out of the grave and right into a new webcomic. Millions cheered as this sparked a fire in the adventure community. There was new hope and that hope was not dashed. A new company called “Telltale Games” had gotten the rights to “Sam and Max” after Lucasarts hold on the beloved duo expired. They promised another game and so “Sam and Max were reborn.
Now we are in the present day. Its 2007 and “Sam and Max” are starring in a complete new game, or really series of games. Thats right! There was more than one game. “Telltale Games” was releasing a series of games. They would be distributed over the internet through gametap, an online subscription to hundreds of games via download, and would be available later on in stores. The games were made to be small and to encompass a story in each one but deliver a growing story over the release of each game. Kind of like a tv series.
Now Sam and Max are available in stores and the internet.
